Lopi Einband Lace

Wool lace spun in Iceland from local wool, Einband is ideal for shawls, light garments for year-round wear, and lace knitting. Fabric made from this yarn will be slightly fuzzy, durable, lightweight, breathable, and will bloom and soften when washed. Einband is slightly thick and thin and looks stunning in lacework projects. Some people work a strand of Einband with a strand of Lopi's Plötulopi (a DK weight unspun yarn/pencil roving) to strengthen Plötulopi. This yarn also felts nicely making it a good choice for knit-to-felt projects. The 46 natural and vibrantly dyed color options available make this a good choice for Fairisle and other colorwork projects.

Please note: Garments made from Einband tend to be stretchy until they are blocked, it is recommended to block your swatches for an accurate gauge reading.

Einband is spun from the wool of Icelandic sheep, one of the world's oldest breeds. What makes Icelandic wool so special? It contains two different types of hair that serve as a natural barrier from wet and cold weather. A tough and water-resistant outer layer - composed of coarse, long fibers known as Tog. Underneath the Tog is a layer of shorter fibers, known in Iceland as þel. This softer layer ensures the sheep stay snug and warm even in the worst weather conditions. These dual layers provide phenomenal protection even in knitted clothing, come rain or snow if any moisture escapes through the water-resistant Tog layer, the þel can keep you warm even when wet! This wonderous wool was milled into Einband by Ístex in Iceland.
